Sophia Hobby

Associate Trial Consultant

Sophia Hobby joined Decision Analysis with a background that sits at the intersection of law, psychology, and research — and she draws on all three in her work as a trial consultant.

She spent several years working in litigation and estate planning firms, where she developed a strong foundation in how cases are built, argued, and tried. That experience gave her fluency in the mechanics of litigation — from discovery and deposition prep to trial strategy — and a practical understanding of what attorneys need from their consultants.

Alongside her legal work, Sophia developed a rigorous research background at UC Irvine. She spent over a year analyzing longitudinal datasets on youth behavior and institutional contact, handling everything from data cleaning to statistical modeling and visualization. In a separate project, she qualitatively coded hundreds of pages of legislative hearings using Atlas.ti, identifying patterns across complex legal and policy materials. She is skilled at working through large volumes of complex information and distilling it into clear, meaningful findings.

Sophia also competed in undergraduate mock trial at UC Irvine, earning both All-Regional and All-National Witness recognition from the American Mock Trial Association. That experience gave her a firsthand understanding of how witnesses come across to fact-finders, how credibility is built, where narratives break down, and what actually moves a room. It is a perspective she brings directly to her work evaluating witnesses and assessing juror responses.

Sophia graduated cum laude from UC Irvine in 2025 with degrees in Criminology, Law and Society, and Psychological Science. She was honored with the Gil Geis Undergraduate Research Award and UCI’s Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award in Criminology, Law and Society.
